In March 2018, UMAT was established by vocalist Stephen Pierre as a grassroots community music company (CIC) based in London.
Operating as a not-for-profit group, our primary objective is to showcase and support the talents of both aspiring and seasoned musicians . Contributing to the community and proudly supporting worthy causes. Many of London’s talented student and graduate musicians have taken part in events hosted by UMAT.
UMAT was nominated for a Mayor of London Culture and Creative Award in 2019, following the popularity of The Bermondsey Square Jazz Days and Live Music Events held at the Bermondsey Blue Market.
UMAT were also recognised with a Southwark Business Excellence Award in 2020 for its ‘Contribution to the Community’ . In May 2021, UMAT presented its first outdoor jazz event at St John’s Church Garden Waterloo, which was acknowledged as part of London’s Festival of Ideas Summer 2021.
our next achievement came in June 2022, when we hosted our first outdoor jazz event at The Palm Tree Pub located in East London’s Mile End Park E3 . The event was highly successful and returned again in the summer of 2023 re-named as ‘Let’s Make Music & Dance’ incorporating live jazz and salsa dancing sessions.
Unity Music Arts Team (UMAT) As a grassroots non-profit organization, depends on donations, grants, and sponsorships to bring our live music events and projects to life.
